Tuncurry surf guide

Tuncurry is a surf spot located at the mouth of Wallis Lake, known for its vibrant surf culture. It's a place where you'll find a mix of local surfers and visitors enjoying the waves. The breakwall at Tuncurry has become a popular spot, especially when a decent NE swell is rolling in. It's important to remember that the quality of the waves can change quickly as you move north along the beach.

The surf here works best with a NorthEast swell and can handle sizes starting from about 1ft (0.3 meters). You can score some fun rights that peel down the sandbar, and sometimes you’ll see a few lefts popping up across the channel. For the best experience, aim for a low, mid, or high tide. The preferred wind direction is from the SouthWest, which can help create cleaner conditions. However, Tuncurry is more suitable for intermediate surfers due to the varying wave conditions, so it’s a good idea to have some experience before paddling out.

While many surfers choose to paddle out on the lake side, just keep an eye out for outgoing rips and incoming fin tips! The environment can change as you navigate the area, so being aware will help you enjoy your session more. Overall, Tuncurry is a solid spot when the swell is right, but knowing what to expect will make your trip much nicer.
