Turtles is a fun, walling left that breaks at the picturesque southern end of Pulau Bangkaru, in Indonesia's Banyak Islands. The wave peels over live coral and throws the occasional slot, and like most breaks in the Banyaks it is sensitive to swell direction.
When It Works
Turtles draws swell from south through west, with south (S) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it is a consistent left, so swell in that window shows up reliably.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to groom the wall. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Turtles suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup stays fairly quiet even when it is on.
