Overview
Typhoon Alley is a right-hand reef break on the narrow Naiqoro Passage in Fiji, a major lagoon entrance. It breaks over live coral, and because the passage faces southeast, it only shows occasionally.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southeast (SE) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is on the lower side, so it tends to turn on only now and then rather than whenever there is swell.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind. In practice the wave only comes together when the wind sits in the north-to-west quadrant. It breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave, so it rewards confident, experienced surfers. The lineup stays quiet, and apart from the sea life moving through this lagoon entrance you will often have it to yourself.
