University surf guide

University, located in Cape Coast, is a spot that's often looked at as below average when it comes to beach breaks. While it has its moments, it’s important to manage your expectations. It lines up in front of the university and the castle, making it a popular, yet not always reliable surf option for locals and visitors alike.

This surf spot tends to handle swell sizes starting from about 1 ft (0.3 m) and is best with a south swell direction. You can find waves coming in from the southeast and southwest as well. The breaks here work over sand and you can catch waves breaking both to the left and right. The preferred wind direction is from the northwest, and the spot can be surfed at low, mid, or even high tide. It’s a decent spot for beginners who are looking to get comfortable on the water without too much hassle.

While you’re at University, remember that the area is affected by sand mining, which can impact the beach and the overall surf condition. If you want to explore other options nearby, Anomabu beach resort is about 30 minutes east and offers some short, fun rides. Another break at Anomabu is just 10 minutes up the road, providing more choices for your surf session.
