Overview
University is a beachbreak in Cape Coast, the Central Region's capital, breaking over sand in front of the university and the old castle. The waves here are on the mellow, below-average side, peeling both left and right. Sand mining along this stretch, where truckloads are hauled off the beach, has been reshaping the coastline in a major way.
When It Works
The break draws swell from southwest through southeast, with south swell the best match. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and stays moderately consistent, so you get worthwhile windows without it turning on every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest offshore wind. University can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet. If you want other options, Anomabu sits about 30 minutes east with a beach break offering short, fun rides, and there is another beach break ten minutes further up the road.
