Urbitzondo is a beginner-friendly beach break on the La Union coast, known for long lefts that peel over sand. It also picks up rights, and its mellow, sandy setup makes it the home of the La Union Longboard Open.
When It Works
The sand bottom draws swell from the southwest through north, and it comes into its own on a northwest swell. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, a wide working range that covers small, playful days up toward the top of the scale. Consistency is moderate, so expect rideable days fairly regularly rather than every session.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast offshore wind to clean up the faces. The break works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Those long, forgiving lefts over sand make Urbitzondo a natural fit for beginners and longboarders finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
