Widemouth Bay Surf Forecast Guide

Widemouth Bay is a long stretch of beach broken up by reef peaks. Black Rock sits at the southern end and Camel Rock to the north, and both patches of reef can turn out long lefts and rights. As the tide drops, the two stretches of sand join into one long beach, breaking over a mix of uneven reef and sand, so there's usually something to ride.

When It Works

It draws swell from the southwest through northwest, with southwest (SW) the best direction. Good sandbanks keep it consistent, and the waves work from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. It comes into its best form through autumn, and can produce clean peaks and long walls when a tidy swell lines up.

Wind and Tide

Look for east (E) offshore wind. It works through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

The consistent banks suit beginners and take just about any board, from shortboards and fish to funboards, longboards, and bodyboards. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, with a somewhat reserved feel in the water.

Access

There are two car parks, one at each end of the beach, both paid. You'll also find restrooms, camping, lifeguards, and a surf school.
