Wilderness is a wide expanse of northwest-facing reef set behind the golf course. In big, wrapping northeast swells it throws some of the tallest, wildest rights around, while the lefts turn more bowly when the surf is small. It holds huge faces over an uneven, nasty reef, and the rips run strong, so this is serious water.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northwest through northeast, with northeast the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 6.1 m / 20 ft, a wide window that carries it from smaller days all the way up to genuinely huge faces. It breaks reliably, turning on whenever the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. Between the strong rips, the sharp reef, and the size it can reach, it is no place to be finding your feet. Expect a busy lineup when it turns on, with the crowd spreading from Ruins down the reef and a strong local presence in the water.

You will find it just behind the golf course, with a car park and free parking.
