Zandvoort to Katwijk is a long run of wide-open beach that breaks over sand, offering soft crumblers that peel both left and right. Waves often reform on the way in and break harder on the inside, so there's usually a fresh section to work as you paddle back. It's a friendly, roomy stretch that suits longboarding well.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from southwest through north, with a northwest (NW) swell the best match. Southwest swells also deliver, so most of that window is worth checking. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and consistency is moderate, so it pays to time your sessions to a solid swell.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The beach works across low, mid, and high water, and a rising tide is the better call, pushing best around mid tide.
Local Tips
This is a good spot to learn or to log, with plenty of room even as more surfers of all types spread along the beach. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working. Beginners should keep an eye on the strong longshore currents, which can move you down the beach quickly.
Access
There are restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard on hand. Parking is at a car park, and while free parking can be found, expect to pay in summer.
