Da Nang sits on Vietnam's central coast, a mostly sand-bottomed stretch that picks up swell from the north through northeast and east across a handful of beach breaks and one rockier point. Most of the surfing in Da Nang happens along the long city beaches, and the season leans toward the northeast monsoon months of roughly September through March, when north and east swell reaches the coast.
The beach breaks are the heart of it: forgiving sand-bottom waves that suit beginners and run best in the smaller range, from around waist-high up to shoulder- and head-high, roughly 1 to 6 feet. They hold up under westerly offshore wind and can work through most of the tide, so timing here is more about swell and wind than chasing a narrow window. Notable spots include My Khe and Nam O Point, with My Khe's mellow open-beach setup a natural place to start.
Nam O Point is the step up, an intermediate point with a boulder-and-sand bottom that wants more size. It fills in from around head-high and holds bigger swell up to roughly 8 feet, with a southwesterly wind grooming the lineup. It rewards surfers ready to move on from the beach breaks.
For orientation, the spots spread across a few coastal pockets near My Thi, Phuong My Thanh, Xom Son Thuy, and Xuan Tien, giving enough variety to move around as wind and swell shift. On the forecast, look for north-through-east swell paired with offshore wind from the west; when those line up, the beaches turn on and the point becomes worth the paddle. It is a compact but genuine surf zone, strongest for beginners and improvers, with a clear path up to the more demanding point on bigger days.
