Overview
2nd St. to 10th St. is a sandy beach break that peels off both rights and lefts. It's a genuinely pretty stretch of coast that has been allowed to return to its natural state, with a thickly vegetated dune field that's home to rabbits, toads, and a variety of birds.
When It Works
A medium swell brings the most fun here, serving up playful peaks, though the bank doesn't handle much size before it starts to fall apart. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.1 m / 7 ft, drawing swell anywhere from the east-northeast through to the south-southeast. The season runs from autumn into winter, roughly September through March, and whenever there's swell in the water you'll find plenty of options for a fun wave. Paddling out is manageable but can get tough on bigger days, and with a shallow bottom and rip currents running through, it pays to stay switched on.
Wind and Tide
Look for west-northwest offshore wind, with a workable wind window stretching from the west round to the north-northwest. The bank favours mid to high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call. Just be ready for a shorebreak that can pack a punch.
Local Tips
There's room for everyone here, from beginners finding their feet to intermediates and more seasoned surfers. It suits just about any board too, whether you're riding a shortboard, fish, funboard, longboard, or bodyboard. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, with a somewhat reserved feel in the water.
Access
Getting in is easy. Park on the street, stick to the paths, and it's about a block down to the sand. In summer, all-day surfing is allowed between 8th and 10th Streets, and best of all, no beach tags are needed.
