8th Street is a series of jetties at a popular boardwalk spot, with waves breaking over sand and peeling both left and right. There is some reasonable power on tap, and the better sets can throw well-shaped barrels.
When It Works
The jetties draw swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), with southeast (SE) swell the best match. Northeast swells tend to line up the longer lefts. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, and the spot stays fairly consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. The waves break across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a busy lineup when it works, especially in front of the surf shop scene along the boardwalk. Strong currents make the paddle-out difficult once it gets overhead, so pick your moment. Summer can also bring sea-lice.
Access
Restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf shop are all on hand. For parking, there is a car park with free parking, along with paid parking and roadside spaces.
