Overview
Airport Reef is a multi-peak left that breaks over dead coral. The two peaks sometimes link and open up into a long performance wall, and while the waves aren't always perfect, they're a lot of fun for anyone willing to make the extra effort to get out here.
When It Works
It draws swell from south to west (S-W), with southwest (SW) the best match. The reef works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. It picks up more swell than the Rights or Kuta Reef, though that exposure also leaves it more open to cross and offshore trade winds.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. The reef can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide the better call, and the longest walls tend to show at higher tides.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. The lineup is usually smaller and less aggressive, which makes it easier to read the peaks and get your share of waves.
