Anaehoomalu Bay is a point setup that breaks over an uneven reef, tucked right in front of the Hilton. It draws a steady wind and kitesurfing crowd too, so the surfers rarely have the water to themselves.
When It Works
The bay picks up swell from west to north, with west (W) the best match, and works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. There are really two waves here depending on the swell. On smaller northwest swells, a righthand point rifles over a shallow rocky shelf. When bigger west-to-north swells push through, a left peels off the rocks at the south end of the bay. It can be somewhat inconsistent, but it delivers when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
