Avana surf guide

Avana is a surf spot located off the tip of Motutapu, right on the windward side. It's conveniently close to Muri Beach, making it an easy spot for surfers staying in the area. The break itself is relatively short, so you’ll need to have some patience when picking your waves. While it's one of the more popular spots around, the waves here aren’t the most reliable or demanding, and the reef might pose a bit of danger for beginners.

The surf works best with swell coming from the North or South and can handle sizes around 4ft (1.2 meters). The waves break over live coral and generally favor a right direction. For the best experience, aim to surf during high tide, especially when the wind is coming from the Southwest. This spot is better suited for intermediate surfers since the conditions aren’t too challenging, but it still provides a decent session for those with some experience.

Just across the passage, there’s a smaller right that tends to attract bodyboarders, providing a different vibe for those looking to switch it up. Keep in mind that while Avana has some enjoyable waves, the overall experience might not be as exciting as other more consistent spots.
