Overview
Awang is a long, bowling right-hander that breaks over a shallow platform of live coral. When everything lines up, it peels south of the village and throws proper tubes.
When It Works
This is a rare-conditions wave, so expect it to be somewhat inconsistent. It draws swell from southeast through south, with southeast (SE) the best direction, and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. The magic happens when a south to southeast swell teams up with the right wind: long bowling rights start firing along the reef.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind to groom the faces. It breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Awang suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on.
Access
The road from Kuta ends in Ampang, an east-facing village, and the wave breaks just south of there.
