Backwash (Golfo Dulce) Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Backwash is a right-hand reef break in the middle cove of Golfo Dulce, peeling over an uneven reef. It usually runs a touch smaller than the outer point, but hollow, fast sections make it a popular wave, and you'll sometimes pick off the odd left off the reef too.

When It Works

The reef draws swell from south to southwest, with south swell the best match, and it shows less on a west swell. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and stays moderately consistent.

Wind and Tide

Look for northwest offshore wind. Backwash comes in at low to mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Bear in mind the reef turns rocky and shallow at low.

Local Tips

This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a very busy lineup when it's on, as it's pretty much always crowded these days.

Access

There's camping nearby, along with free roadside parking.
