Overview
Badezeit Westerland is a beach break where a kink in the shoreline shapes some long lefts and a shorter right-hander over sand-covered boulders. When a big northwest or southwest swell fills in, there are cover-ups on offer.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with west (W) the best direction. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. It breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup gets crowded whenever it's on.
Access
There's a car park, along with restrooms, showers, and lifeguard cover. From May to September, lifeguards enforce a swimming-only policy, so plan your sessions around that season.
