Baishawan is a north-facing beach located near Taipei, making it pretty easy to get to via train or bus. The beach has white sand and generally offers a relaxed vibe. It tends to be flat during the summer, which isn’t great for surfing, but once winter comes around, it can get cold and windy. Unfortunately, the waves here often lack power and shape, which can make for less-than-stellar surf sessions. Because of this, you’ll find that kiteboarders, windsurfers, and hang gliders like to frequent the area instead.

The surf at Baishawan is best suited for beginners, especially when the swell is around 1 ft (0.3 m). The optimal swell direction is from the north, and you could also catch some fun rides with swells coming from the northeast. The waves here break over sand, and you can ride them left or right. The best conditions arise when the wind comes from the south, and it’s worth checking out during low, mid, or high tide. While the beach itself might not blow your mind, if you’re new to surfing or want to chill on a soft beach, then it could be alright.

If you're looking for something a bit more exciting, just head a little east to the high tide reef break called Wedding Plaza. That spot generally offers better chances for a more powerful surf experience compared to Baishawan.
