Overview
Bares is an east-facing beachbreak that breaks over sand and peels both left and right. It is a beautiful spot with clean water, and it suits intermediate surfers looking for a mellow session away from the crowds.
When It Works
Bares needs plenty of energy and really comes alive on the biggest storms. It draws swell from northwest to north (NW-N), with northwest (NW) the best match. The break is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so it wants a solid pulse before the sandbars start to show their shape.
Wind and Tide
The bay is sheltered from west and northwest winds, which helps keep the surface clean when other spots are getting blown out. Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind to groom it best. Bares only works on low to mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect an uncrowded lineup, as Bares rarely draws much of a pack. It is a good fit for intermediate surfers.
