Overview
Barra do Mampituba is the north jetty at Torres, lining up good right-handers over sand. Torres is the exception along this stretch of coastline, with pristine beaches and the famous basalt rock formations that gave the city its name.
When It Works
The right-handers are at their best on a south (S) swell, and the spot picks up anything from east through south (E-S). It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and waves here turn up consistently.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to clean things up. The jetty works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly wave for beginners, and the lineup gets busy when it's on. If you want something steeper, the canal between the jetties holds smaller, hollower waves, but keep clear of the boat traffic and nets in there.
Access
There's a car park with free parking as well as roadside parking. Water quality can suffer after rain, so it's worth staying out for a day or two once it's poured.
