Overview
Barrañan is an average-quality beachbreak sitting close to the city of A Coruña. Waves peel both left and right over a sand bottom, giving a straightforward setup when the swell lines up. Water quality isn't pristine, with a bit of pollution to keep in mind.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from the northwest through north (NW-N), with northwest (NW) the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and turns out reliable rides once the size settles into that window.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The bank comes into its own around mid to high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one rewards experts. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, and it gets especially packed through summer thanks to how near it is to A Coruña.
Access
There's free parking at the beach, though facilities are on the limited side.
