Overview
Bashien Dong is a long, left-hand boulder pointbreak tucked below Eight Fairy Cave, and it shows off just how much power Taiwanese surf can carry. On its day it lines up great walling lefts, with soft shoulders out the back giving way to the odd short peeler on the rocky inside before a heavy shorepound. Keep an eye on the rivermouth, which can throw up intense rips and pushes some rights off to the north.
When It Works
The point comes alive on big northeast swells, and it will draw anything from north through east (N-E) across the boulders. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and is moderately consistent, so you get worthwhile windows when the swell lines up rather than surf every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind, which pairs with those northeast swells to groom the walls. The point can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers best, with the mellow outside shoulders easing you in before the shorter, punchier inside section. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's breaking.
