Overview
Bawa is a remote, fickle right-hand reef break that unloads over a gnarled slab of dead coral. It's a growling, powerful wave that shifts around as it wraps down the reef, and it reliably pulls in more swell than anything nearby, which makes it a regular escape from the crowds at Lagundri.
When It Works
Bawa draws swell from south to southwest (S-SW), with southwest (SW) swell the best match. A solid southwest swell is what really turns it on, folding into round, cavernous pits through the inside bowl section. It's a right-hander over reef and is moderately consistent, so the good days come and go rather than lining up back to back. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to groom it. The reef is best on mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. It's challenging and heavy, built for confident surfers chasing barrels rather than anyone still finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
