Bintangs is a surprisingly fun, workable right-hander that breaks over live coral across the bay from a better-known left. When that left is crowded, it makes a great escape.
When It Works
Bintangs draws swell from south to west (S-W), with a southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and won't handle much more size than that. On its day, a slabby take-off barrel section peels into a bendy, hittable wall that only improves with more water over the reef.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north (N) offshore wind. It comes in on mid and high tide, with a rising tide the better call as more water fills in and cleans up that wall.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers and usually stays low key. It mainly draws a crowd when nearby Lances gets blown out; the rest of the time the lineup is quiet.
