Overview
Bird Rock is a short, sucky right-hand reef that breaks over a submerged finger of rock ledge. It jacks up quickly and rifles off fast, so the takeoff zone is tiny and every wave is earned.
When It Works
The reef comes to life on a clean, moderate swell, drawing energy from the south through southwest, with southwest (SW) the best match. It is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Consistency is moderate, so time your session around a solid pulse rather than expecting it to be on any given day.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to hold the face clean. Mid tide is the prime window, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. It fires fast over shallow rock and the small peak is worked by a dedicated crew, so expect a busy lineup and a genuine scrap for waves when it turns on. If you are not confident at speed on a shallow reef, there are other reefs nearby better suited to your level.
Access
Park in the car park on the overlooking cliffs at the western end of Jan Juc, where parking is free. Restrooms and showers are on hand.
