Bird Rock surf guide

Bird Rock is a spot located at Jan Juc, known for its short, right-handed reef break. It’s mainly revered by the local surfers who are keen on its unique and often challenging conditions. The spot can get pretty crowded, especially when there’s a clean, moderate SouthWest swell rolling in, so expect to see plenty of dedicated surfers in the lineup.

The waves here can really jack up and deliver some fast rides, so it’s definitely a location for more experienced surfers. Bird Rock handles swell sizes up to around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters), with the best surf coming in on South or SouthWest swells. The mid tide is the sweet spot to catch some good waves, and you’ll find the optimal conditions when the wind is coming from the Northwest. Just keep in mind that this spot is not ideal for beginners, as it requires solid skills to navigate the fast and sucky waves.

Accessing Bird Rock involves parking on the cliffs at the west end of Jan Juc. If you’re not comfortable with challenging surf, it’s best to check out some of the other nearby reefs that might be more suited to your skill level. This spot is mainly for the shredder crowd, so if you’re up for a test, get ready to paddle out!
