Overview
Black Point is a long-walled left-hand point at the northern end of 7 Mile Beach, breaking over an uneven reef. On the right day it throws out genuinely perfect barrels, though the rips start swirling once there's real size behind it. There are more reefs worth exploring in the same stretch.
When It Works
The point picks up swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, but southeast is the direction that lights it up. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 2.6 m / 8 ft, with the bigger end of that range bringing the swirling rips into play. Consistency is moderate, so it won't be on every time you check, but the windows are worth waiting for.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind. A southeast swell paired with northwest wind is the combination that produces those long, walled-up lefts and the best barrels. The point prefers mid to high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and a left-hand point over uneven reef rewards anyone comfortable reading a shifting takeoff. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on.
Access
There's a car park with free parking plus roadside spots, though finding a space gets tricky through summer. Camping is available nearby if you want to be there for the early sessions.
