Black Rocks is a fast, powerful right-hander that folds into a walling reef break over live coral. When it lines up, it throws a folding wall that runs down the reef, and the sections need a bit of push behind them to keep holding.
When It Works
The reef takes swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with a west (W) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so there is a wide window between too small and too big. Expect moderately consistent surf, showing up often enough to be worth checking when the swell direction is right.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the east (E). Black Rocks holds up best on higher water, so mid and high tide are the tides to target, with a rising tide generally the better call. It also wants a touch more north than south in the wind to keep the sections walling rather than folding shut.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate wave, and it draws a crowd of regular-foots who suit the right-hand walls. Expect a busy lineup when it turns on.
Access
Walk north up the beach from the left at Tamarin, or if you are staying at Taj Exotica, just head out front. There is free parking nearby.
