Overview
Black Spot is the last break in Co Donegal, out on the next protruding point past Pampa. It pulls swell into an exposed peak that barrels hard over an uneven reef.
When It Works
The peak draws swell from west to northwest, and lines up best on a northwest (NW) swell. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft. On the quick low tide the lefts run fast and hollow, throwing hard; as the tide pushes in the rights get longer and more manageable, though they stay pretty hollow. It's moderately consistent, so expect worthwhile windows rather than waves every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind. The reef can work across low, mid, and high tide, but a rising tide is the better call.
Local Tips
This is one for expert surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on. For a mellower option, the inside has intermediate-friendly peaks at the Drowes Rivermouth.
Access
Getting in and out means a tricky rock hop, so it suits confident surfers who don't mind scrambling over the reef. There's free roadside parking.
