Boca Damas is a rivermouth break that peels over sand, throwing long, fast lefts that section and sometimes go hollow, alongside shorter rights. It tends to break bigger than the spots around it, and it rewards experienced surfers who can read a fast, shifting wave.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west, with south (S) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and stays consistent, so there are regular windows when the rivermouth lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind to clean it up. Tide is a crucial factor here: the wave breaks across low, mid, and high, but an incoming, rising tide is the better call and generally when it comes to life.

This is an expert-level wave, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet when it's on.
Access
Getting in takes some planning. The walk from Quepos is long, currents run strong, and crocodiles are a genuine concern, so most surfers opt for a boat ride from Damas rather than hiking in. You can also set out from the developed city of Quepos. Parking is restricted.
