Overview
Bocabarranco is a below-average beachbreak on Gran Canaria, with peaks that break over a mix of boulders and sand. Wave quality is poor and made worse by pollution: outfall pipes have been discharging sewage here for years, both onto the shore and into the water. Despite repeated legal challenges nothing has changed, and it is widely regarded as one of the worst stretches of coast on the island. Most surfers are better off avoiding it.
When It Works
The break throws both lefts and rights. It draws swell from west through north (W-N), with a northwest (NW) swell the best match. Expect rideable waves from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south (S) offshore wind to clean things up. The peaks work best around mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
