Overview
Bonete is a sand-bottomed beach break that peels both left and right, sitting on a beach voted one of Brazil's top 10.
When It Works
Bonete comes alive on a south (S) swell, though it will take anything from southwest to southeast (SW-SE). When a south or southwest swell wraps in, it triangulates off the headland and throws high, wide tubes. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and is moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind. The bank breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on.
Access
Getting to Bonete is a mission: most surfers face a trek of three hours or more, though you can also catch a boat from town, which gets pricey unless you split it with a group. There's camping on hand plus pousadas right on the beach, and parking is restricted.
