Overview
Broadway is the southernmost break in New Jersey, a sand-bottom setup among a series of jetties that offers the most variety of any spot in town. The main draw is a consistently good left that peels off the jetty and frequently shifts a little down the beach, backed up by fun, wedgy rights. On a decent swell, lined-up lefts run up and down the whole beach, and the better lefts can get hollow.
When It Works
The break draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with northeast (NE) swell the best match, ideally a building one. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, roughly waist-high to well overhead, though getting enough size can be the limiting factor here. Expect the most reliable waves through autumn and winter, and it stays consistent once the swell shows up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north (N) offshore wind to clean things up. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call and mid to high the most dependable.
Local Tips
This is a beginner-friendly wave, and the sand bottom takes everything from shortboards and fish to funboards, longboards, and bodyboards. Expect a busy lineup when it works, with a mellow-to-moderate vibe among the crowd.
Access
Getting in is easy most of the year but toughest in summer, when beach tags are required and surfing is not allowed during daytime hours. There's roadside parking, plus restrooms, showers, and lifeguards. Watch for rip currents, and expect summer tourists sharing the beach.
