Overview
Bunatrahir Bay is a sheltered left-hand reef that breaks over a rock ledge, tucked in behind the breakwater on the west side of the bay.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from the northwest through to the northeast, with a north swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is on the low side, so it takes some patience for the right swell and wind to line up, but the sheltered corner pays off when they do.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south offshore wind to groom it. The reef is best at low tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet even when it's on.
Access
Park considerately by the harbour, where there's free roadside parking.
