Busua Beach is Ghana's surfing centre, a sandy beach break serving up fun, mostly easy waves that suit surf schools and locals working on their surfing. Both lefts and rights break here. It can get a bit dumpy at times, when the backbeach at Butre or the lefts off the eastern point may be the better call. The offshore island of Abokwa holds potential too, but it's boat access only.
When It Works
Busua draws swell from southwest through southeast (SW-SE), with south swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and the sand-bottom beach break stays moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest offshore wind to clean things up. The beach can work across low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better window.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, beginner-level wave, which is exactly why it's the hub for Ghana's surf schools and local surfers finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
