Overview
Camburi is the most consistent wave in the region, a beach break that peaks in the middle and spreads the crowd across the sand. It breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand, so the wave can turn sucky and slabby. When you want a change, there are good options nearby: Baleia, Barra do Sahy and Juqueí to the west, or Boiçucanga to the east, where a thumping, sucky shorebreak draws bodyboarders.
When It Works
Camburi draws swell from east through south, with south swell the best match. On a major south swell the middle peak fires off excellent lefts, while an east swell lights up rights at the other end. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and the setup is very consistent, so rideable days turn up here more often than at most breaks around.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore wind. Camburi can work through low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The lineup gets busy when it's on, and you can expect some attitude on the good days. There's usually enough room to move, though, and the current keeps the pack shuffling. It's an approachable spot for beginners.
Access
You'll find all the facilities of a cool little beach town here, including restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school and a surf shop. Parking is easy too, with a car park offering free spaces alongside paid and roadside options.
