Overview
Cannes is a beach break that works over sand and peels both left and right. Jetties along the front help shape the sandbanks and add power to the wave. The main stretch, Plage du Midi, holds a few named peaks: l'Aérospatiale and Chantier can throw good lefts, with the occasional barrel at l'Abreuvoir.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from east through south, and it lines up best on a southeast (SE) swell. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft, so you'll want a bit of size before it's worth the paddle. Consistency is on the patchy side, so time your session to a decent pulse of swell.
Wind and Tide
The offshore direction here is east (E). It breaks across low, mid, and high water, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate wave, and the lineup gets busy when it's on. If you cross to the far side of the Croisette Cape to surf in front of Palm Beach, mind the bottom, as rocks and urchins are common over there.
Access
Getting into l'Aérospatiale means a jump straight off the jetty. On land you'll find restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard, plus a car park, paid parking, and roadside spots nearby.
