Cap de la Chèvre is a right-hand point that peels over an uneven reef on an exposed headland. It comes alive only when serious swell wraps into the point, and it is strictly a break for experienced surfers. Seals, dolphins, and busloads of tourists are all regular visitors here.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest to northwest (SW-NW), with west (W) swell the best match for lining up the right. It is usable from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so it wants real size before it fires. Expect it to be somewhat inconsistent, but the windows are worth watching for when a solid west swell hits the headland.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean up the face. It works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. Break out the guns and a long leg rope for the paddle out and the drops when it is big. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet even when it is on.
Access
Getting in is long and tricky, and access may not even be permitted. The way down is a steep, slippery cliff, and swirling currents are all but guaranteed once you are out. There is a car park with free parking, and you will find facilities in nearby Morgat.
