Cape Pakarang is an easy, beginner-friendly left-hand point in Thailand, with waves breaking over sand. The lefts peel down the point at a relaxed, cruising speed, and it stays surfable year-round, making it one of the more dependable options along this part of the coast.
When It Works
The point draws swell from south through west, with southwest swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and consistency is moderate through the year. There are rights to the south as well, and the whole stretch down toward the Khao Lak hotel area tends to hold waves fairly reliably.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to clean things up. The point works through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a great place to learn, with small, forgiving waves and a fairly quiet lineup. The tiny surf here suits beginners well, and it also lends itself to SUP and kayak sessions.
Access
Pakarang Surf Shop in Khao Lak rents and sells all types of boards, including SUPs and kayaks. If you're scouting the wider area, Nang Thong beach, Bang Niang river mouth, and Khuk Khak beach are the best spots to check.
