Overview
Caravan Park sits at the north end of Lambert's Bay, in front of the rivermouth, where a breakwater running out to Bird Island has formed a natural harbour. Bird Island is a massive slab of rock colonised by thousands of penguins, cormorants and cape gannets. The wave itself is a mushy, tide-dependent beachbreak that favours lefts. It's a consistent spot, even if it won't be the highlight of your trip.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from southwest through west, with west (W) swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Waves peel both left and right over a mix of rock ledge and sand, and you can count on it turning up regularly, with the lefts the pick of the two.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to tidy it up. The wave is tide-dependent, working through low and mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
The soft, forgiving shape makes this a friendly option for beginners. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's working.

There's camping right at the spot, and parking is free along the roadside.
