Overview
Ceningan is a left-hander off the southwest tip of the barely populated Ceningan island. It lines up rolling walls with a steep pocket and predictable sections, all breaking over live coral. There's some protection from the trades here, though strong currents and a deepwater channel can make things messy and knock the incoming swell around.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south to west, with southwest (SW) the best match, and is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. It's a solid small-swell option when nearby Lembongan isn't working, but it turns powerful and sketchy once the swell jumps. Expect moderately consistent surf.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the east (E). It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, and it fires as a low-tide option on smaller days.
Local Tips
This left suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to be moderately busy when it's on. Locals report sharks in the area, so factor that in before paddling out.
Access
Ceningan is best reached by boat. There are a few routes down the cave-pocked cliffs, but the water is the easier call.
