Playgrounds surf guide

Playgrounds is a surf spot located on Nusa Lembongan, known for being pretty user-friendly. It sits below some cliffs that protect it from the Southeast trade winds, making it a solid choice for surfers looking for a more relaxed session. Because it’s closer to shore, getting in and out isn’t too much of a hassle. The waves here can be a good option at lower tides and are a bit deeper compared to other nearby spots. While it can get crowded with tourists and the occasional leisure craft, the vibe is usually chill.

The optimal swell direction for Playgrounds is Southwest, although it can also work with swells coming from the South and West. It can handle swell sizes starting from around 2 feet (0.6 meters), breaking over live coral and offering both left and right waves. Most of the fun can be found on the lefts, which provide some nice wall sections and a few opportunities to bash the lip. The rights may pitch a little but tend to fade out quickly. This spot can work at low, mid, and high tides, making it versatile, but it’s best suited for intermediate surfers due to the varying conditions and constant currents you’ll need to paddle against.

Keep in mind that the winds from the East are preferred here, which can help to shape up the surf nicely. With a flotilla of cruisers hanging around, it’s important to look out for other surfers and boats in the area. If you’re in the mood for a session that’s a bit more laid-back, Playgrounds is definitely worth checking out.
