Overview
Playgrounds is the most user-friendly spot on Lembongan, a reef break tucked below cliffs that shelter it from the southeast trade winds. It sits closer to shore than the breaks nearby, so the paddle out is easier, and the deeper water gives you more wall to work rather than the flat-out barrels next door. Both lefts and rights come through, but the lefts are the pick, offering a few lip-bashing sections along a tapered wall. The rights tend to pitch slightly before fading quickly.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west, with southwest the best direction, and it breaks consistently. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, over live coral.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind. The wave works through low, mid, and high tide and keeps breaking even as the tide drops, though a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a solid intermediate wave, and the lineup gets busy when it's on. Be ready to paddle against a constant current, and keep in mind that the whole area is shared with a flotilla of cruisers, pontoons and leisure craft catering to the daily influx of Bali day-trippers.
