Overview
Cerro Hermoso is a rivermouth break where a large lagoon system drains out to sea. A jetty helps hold the sand, which reshapes every time the boca breaks open, so the bank is never quite the same twice. Both lefts and rights peel over the sand, and in the right conditions it's a mellow spot for all abilities to grab some fun waves.
When It Works
The break draws swell from southeast through south to west, with a southwest (SW) swell the best match. Waves form here in anything with some south in it, though the bank won't handle too much size. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and holds up as a moderately consistent option.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind to clean things up. The sandbank can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, beginner-suited wave, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet. If Cerro Hermoso isn't firing, nearby options can help: Playa El Venada sometimes throws up short, empty peaks, and Playa Roca Blanca often has a lazy right off the western headland rocks, tucked out of the western breeze.
