Chulamar is a sand-bottomed beach break that peels both left and right. The beach sits a little less steep than its neighbours, so when the swell is small it tends to serve up tidy, well-organised waves.
When It Works
It draws swell from southwest to southeast, with southwest the best match for lining up clean peaks. The break is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. It's moderately consistent, though a bigger swell can overpower the bank and scramble the shape, so the cleaner days often come when the swell stays on the smaller side.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore wind to groom the faces. It works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an approachable spot for beginners, helped by those organised small-swell days. The lineup usually stays fairly quiet.
