Cloudy Bay Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Cloudy Bay is a scenic beachbreak set along a curving stretch of white sand, and it ranks as one of the best beachbreaks in Tassie. The waves break over sand and uneven reef, peeling both left and right. On its day it gets picture perfect, and the rockier peaks around Middle Beach are well worth a look. The surrounding Labillardiere State Reserve holds a few fickle reefs and Australia's southernmost lighthouse.

When It Works

Cloudy Bay comes alive on a small to medium, peaky swell, serving up good beachbreak waves that favour the rights breaking into the rip. It draws swell from southwest through southeast, with south swell the best match, and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. It's very consistent, so you can count on finding something to ride more often than not.

Wind and Tide

Look for northeast offshore wind, though any hint of north will find an offshore corner somewhere along the curve of the beach. It works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is a friendly spot for beginners, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet when it's on.
