Coffee Bay Point surf guide

Coffee Bay Point is a surf spot located off the southern headland of the beautiful Coffee Bay. It's a nice place for surfers looking to enjoy a more laid-back vibe. The area is not too crowded outside of the holiday season in December and January, making it a decent spot for those wanting to improve their skills without the hassle of a big crowd.

When it comes to surfing at Coffee Bay Point, it works best with southeast swell directions, but you can also catch some waves when it's coming from the east or southwest. The spot can handle swell sizes starting from around 2 feet (0.6 meters). The waves break right over a mix of rock ledge and sand, offering a point break that is generally forgiving. It’s a pretty slow wall, so it’s suitable for beginners and improvers. The preferable wind direction is from the west, and it works well at low, mid, and high tide.

Just a short distance away, you’ll find Mbomvu’s rare right-hand rivermouth spot and White Clay, which is an average beach that picks up most of the available swell. If you're looking for a more challenging ride, Majutt Point is down the cliffs, known for its serious right point when the east swells come in. Overall, Coffee Bay Point can be a decent spot to practice and enjoy some surf time.
