Conceição is a sandy beachbreak that peels both left and right, sitting at the heart of the island's beach bar scene. Some of the better waves are found around Praia do Italcabe, a fast beachbreak with a right off the eastern corner and some lefts beneath the towering monolith of the Pico do Morro.
When It Works
It draws swell from northwest through northeast, with northwest swell the best match. The banks are usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it stays moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call, since it tends to close out at the extremes of the tide.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, with plenty of safe, sandy whitewash to catch. Expect a fairly quiet, mellow lineup, especially in the mornings.
Access
There's a surf school on hand, along with a car park offering free parking and roadside parking nearby.
