Overview
Corners is a left-hand reef break over live coral with two very different personalities through the year. In due south swells it throws short, sucky, intense barrels, while summer NW-N pulses bring fun, ripable hotdog walls that open up big slashes and airs on the soft inside close-out.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through north (S-N), with south (S) the best match and the direction that switches on those heavy barrels. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and consistency is moderate, so timing your sessions pays off. It breaks in both winter and summer, though any west in the winter swell turns this into the most dangerous left here.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. Corners breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet. Respect the live coral, though: the reef has caused many bad injuries, and it is really the domain of barrel junkies and bodyboarders when it is firing from the south.
