Overview
Del Mar Rivermouth is a sand-bottomed river mouth break in Southern California that peels both left and right. Most of the time it's an average beachbreak, but it has windows worth watching.
When It Works
The best sessions tend to follow heavy rainfall, which is something of a rarity in SoCal, and it comes together best on a smaller west swell. It draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW) and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Don't expect it to be consistently epic, but when the setup lines up it can get quite good.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind to clean it up. It breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Access
Park at the southern end of Solana Beach and walk down, or at the northern end of Del Mar and walk up.
