Dixcove is a right-hand reef that peels beside Fort Metal Cross, a fortress dating back to 1691. There are long waves on offer here, though the water near the rivermouth runs murky and polluted.
When It Works
The wave breaks over a mix of rock ledge and sand and pulls in swell from southwest through southeast, with south swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is moderate, so count on worthwhile windows when the setup lines up rather than surf every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for north offshore wind. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet when it's breaking.
