Overview
Drummonds sits off the pure white sands of Drummonds Point, near the Chapman River, where cracking peaks and hollower walls form over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It breaks both left and right, and the lefts in particular can run for a decent length when everything lines up.
When It Works
Swell reaches the point from the southwest through to the northwest, and southwest (SW) is the direction to hope for. The wave is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it will hold some size as long as the surf stays clean. Small to moderate pulses out of the west tend to bring out its best, and it stays moderately consistent across the season.
Wind and Tide
An east (E) offshore wind grooms the faces here. The reef can work through most of the tide, but a rising tide is generally the better call, with higher water helping the wave come to life.
Local Tips
This is a forgiving, beginner-friendly wave, so it suits surfers still finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on.
Access
Getting in is simple: drive the 4X4 out and park on the sand right in front of the reef. There is free parking, including roadside spots, and camping if you want to settle in for a longer stay.
